Pens by Phil

The woods

Beyond the woods on the pens themselves (African blackwood, redwood burl, cocobolo and birdseye maple), any model can be turned from those below. Most vary slightly from piece to piece. Some vary a great deal, and where they do, I say so before you order.

A turned strip of cocobolo: deep red-brown with dark, near-black streaks running along the grain.
Cocobolo Central America
A turned strip of mesquite: warm orange-brown, evenly grained.
Mesquite Texas and the Southwest
A turned strip of padauk: a strong, saturated red running the length of the grain.
Padauk West Africa
A turned strip of tulipwood: pale cream and rose, boldly striped with darker red.
Tulipwood Brazil
A turned strip of kingwood: dark violet-brown with fine black striping.
Kingwood Brazil
The Artisan pen in cocobolo, a dark red-brown striped wood, finished in 22K gold.

Wood is not a colour swatch.

These photographs show one piece of each. Yours will be cut from another, and it will not match, which is the reason to have a pen made rather than bought. If you'd like to know how a particular wood is running at the moment, ask me before you order.
